Roof insurance claim help, done the Pennsylvania way

Aerial view of a complex grey shingle roof among trees

Yes, we help with roof insurance claims, and we're clear about what that help is. In Pennsylvania, only a licensed public adjuster may advocate with your insurer for you. A roofer can't. What we do is inspect the roof, photo-document the damage, help you file, meet the adjuster on the roof and build the scope your insurer approves.

Most roof claims in Pittsburgh and the North Hills come from a short list of causes: thunderstorm wind lifting shingles, limbs coming down on wooded lots in Wexford and Franklin Park, the occasional hail storm, and winter ice and snow. Wear and age aren't covered. If that's what we see, we tell you before you spend weeks on a claim that won't hold up.

The North Hills add a wrinkle. In HOA subdivisions in Cranberry and Pine Township, shingle color is often set by the association, so when only a few slopes are damaged, matching matters. We record your existing shingle and the HOA rule in our documentation so the adjuster sees both. Whether your policy pays to match is the insurer's decision.

Because we work out of a Warrendale office, the person who documented your damage is the one standing on the roof when the adjuster arrives, and the one whose crew builds the approved scope. One project manager, start to finish.

Why Straight A

What our roof claim help includes

It includes everything a roofer is allowed to do on a Pennsylvania claim, done carefully and on paper. Here's where we put the effort.

Claim inspection before you call the insurer

A free look first tells you whether there's real storm damage to claim, or just an aging roof.

Claim photo report for your file

Photos of each damaged area, organized by slope, that you can send to your insurer along with the claim.

A roofer beside your claim adjuster

We meet the adjuster on the roof and point out every bruise, crease and limb strike we documented, so nothing gets missed.

Approved claim scope, built as written

Once the insurer approves a scope, our crew builds it, and a project manager checks the work against it.

Plain answers on Pennsylvania claim rules

We'll tell you what a roofer can and can't do on a claim here, and when a public adjuster is worth a call.

What's included

Our part in your roof claim

Our part is the roof: showing what happened to it and fixing it to the approved scope. Your insurer decides coverage, and you stay in charge of the claim.

  • Damage inspection with an honest verdict

We check every slope, the flashing, vents, gutters and attic. If the damage is wear rather than a storm, we say so before you file.

  • Photo documentation

Close-ups and wide shots of each problem, with notes on where it sits and what likely caused it. This is the evidence your claim rests on.

  • Help filing the claim

We help you describe the damage clearly, note the date of the storm and attach the right photos when you report it to your insurer.

  • Adjuster meeting on the roof

We're there when the adjuster inspects, walk the roof with them and make sure they see every item in our documentation.

  • Walking you through the adjuster's scope

Insurance scopes are written in line items and codes. We go through yours with you, line by line, so you know what's included.

  • Hidden damage found during the work

If tear-off reveals rotted decking or damage nobody could see, we stop, photograph it and show you, so you can send it to your insurer.

  • Repair or replacement to the approved scope

Our crew builds what was approved, a project manager oversees the job, and we finish with a quality check and full cleanup.

How it works

The roof insurance claim, step by step

A roof claim usually runs in six steps, and the first one happens before you call your insurer. Here's the order we follow.

  1. Step 1

Inspect and photo-document the claim damage

A free roof inspection tells you whether there's a claim worth opening. If there is, we photograph every damaged area and organize the photos so they're easy to send.

  2. Step 2

File the roof claim with your insurer

You file. We help you know what to report and which photos to include.

  3. Step 3

Meet the adjuster on your roof

We walk the roof with the adjuster and point out everything we documented.

  4. Step 4

Build the roof to the approved claim scope

Once the insurer approves the scope, a project manager runs the repair or replacement.

  5. Step 5

Final quality check on the claim job

We inspect the finished roof against the scope, sweep for nails and walk it with you.

FAQ

Insurance Claims questions from Pittsburgh homeowners

Can you deal with my insurance company for me?

Not in the way some contractors promise. In Pennsylvania, only a licensed public adjuster may advocate with an insurer for a homeowner. What we can do is inspect, photo-document the damage, help you file, meet your adjuster on the roof and build the approved scope. If you want someone to argue your claim, we'll suggest you talk to a public adjuster.

My HOA in Pine sets our shingle color. Does that affect my claim?

It can matter. If only part of the roof is damaged and the replacement shingle has to meet an HOA color rule, we note the rule and your existing shingle in our documentation so the adjuster sees it. Whether the policy pays to match or replace more of the roof is the insurer's decision under your policy.

Should I file a claim for an old roof that's leaking?

Usually not, if age is the only cause. Insurance covers sudden damage such as wind, hail or a falling limb, not normal wear. Our free inspection tells you which one you're looking at. If it's wear, we'll quote a repair or replacement directly and save you the time of a claim that won't go anywhere.

What happens when the adjuster comes out?

The adjuster inspects the roof, takes their own photos and measurements, and writes up what the insurer will consider. We meet them on the roof and walk them through the damage we documented. Afterward, the insurer sends you a decision and a scope. We go through that scope with you so you know what's covered.

What if you find more damage after the tear-off starts?

We stop and show you. Rotted decking or a cracked rafter under storm-damaged shingles is common, especially on older North Hills homes with several roof layers. We photograph it, explain it, and you can send it to your insurer. Nothing beyond the approved scope gets built without your say-so.

How long does a roof insurance claim take?

It depends mostly on your insurer. After a widespread storm across Allegheny County and southern Butler County, adjusters get busy and appointments stretch out. Our part moves quickly: inspection, photos and help filing. If the roof is open while you wait, we tarp it so the damage doesn't grow, and we photograph that step too.
