Storm damage repair for Pittsburgh and North Hills roofs

After a storm, the first question is whether your roof was actually damaged, and you often can't tell from the yard. Storm damage repair in Pittsburgh starts with a free inspection. We get on the roof, check every slope, the flashing and the gutters, and tell you what the storm did and what it didn't.
Storms hit each lot differently. In Cranberry and parts of Marshall, big subdivision homes sit on open, exposed lots, and summer thunderstorm wind peels shingles off the slopes that face it. In Wexford, Franklin Park and Bradford Woods, the risk is the trees. One heavy limb can crack decking or punch straight through.
In the city, hillside lots and old street trees put limbs right over the roofline. Hail turns up less often than wind around here, but the occasional summer storm brings it, and it bruises shingles in ways you only see up close. Winter adds its own damage: heavy wet snow and ice that tear gutters loose and lift the first rows of shingles.
Straight A already travels to hard-hit storm areas, and Pittsburgh is home to its first branch office, on Pennwood Place in Warrendale. That matters after a storm. When out-of-town crews knock on doors and then move on, we're still here, with the same project manager who looked at your roof.
Why Straight A
Why storm repairs go better with a local office
They go better because the people who inspect your roof are the ones who fix it and answer the phone next year. Here's what that looks like.
Storm damage sorted from normal wear
Insurers pay for sudden damage, not age. We show you which marks came from this storm and which were already there.
Storm photos taken slope by slope
Every creased shingle, hail bruise and limb strike gets photographed and tied to the slope where it sits.
Storm repairs from a Warrendale office
We aren't a truck from out of state. Our office is in the North Hills, and we deal with the same weather you do.
Storm work from a 5.0-rated company
Straight A, the company behind our Warrendale office, is rated 5.0 across 97 Google reviews and holds a BBB A+. Look us up before anyone climbs your roof.
Storm repair scoped to the real damage
If the storm took a few shingles, we quote a few shingles. If it wrecked the roof, we'll show you why replacement is the honest call.
What's included
Storm damage we repair
We repair everything a western Pennsylvania storm does to a roof: wind, hail, limbs, ice and the water that follows. Each one leaves different marks.

Wind-lifted and missing shingles
Thunderstorm gusts break the seal strip, fold tabs back and sometimes strip whole sections to the felt. We replace the torn and creased shingles and reseal the edges around them.
Hail bruising
Hail knocks granules loose and leaves soft spots in the mat that age fast. We check shingles, vents and gutters for the dents and bruises that tell a real hail story.
Fallen limbs and tree strikes
A limb can crack rafters and decking even when the shingles look whole. We open the area, check the framing and decking, and rebuild it properly.
Bent flashing and broken vents
Wind and debris bend metal flashing, crack plastic vents and loosen chimney caps. Those openings let rain in long after the storm passes.
Gutter and drip edge damage
Ice, snow load and falling branches pull gutters from the fascia and bend drip edge. We repair the roof edge so water drains where it should.
Leaks from wind-driven rain
Sideways rain finds gaps that ordinary rain never reaches, usually at sidewalls, dormers and chimney flashing. We trace it and seal the actual gap.
Storm-related roof replacement
When damage covers most of the roof, or the deck is compromised, a replacement is often the honest answer. We document why and show you the photos.
How it works
What happens after you call about storm damage
We inspect first, cover anything open, document it all, then repair. If you file a claim, our claim help fits in before the repair starts.
- Step 1
Walk the storm damage, roof to gutters
A free inspection of every slope, the flashing, the vents, the gutters and the attic below the damage.
- Step 2
Photograph the storm damage slope by slope
We shoot close-ups and wide shots so you, or an adjuster, can see exactly what happened and where.
- Step 3
Tarp any storm opening
If wind or a limb left the roof open, we cover it so rain doesn't add to the damage while the repair is planned.
- Step 4
Write the storm repair estimate
A written estimate of the work, the materials and the cost. If you file, we help you file and meet your adjuster on the roof.
- Step 5
Rebuild and recheck the storm-damaged roof
A project manager runs the repair, then does a final quality check and nail sweep before we finish.
FAQ
Storm Damage Repair questions from Pittsburgh homeowners
A storm crew knocked on my door in Cranberry. Should I sign?
Not on the spot. After a big storm, crews from out of the area often canvass subdivisions in Cranberry and Wexford, then leave once the work dries up. Ask where their office is, get a written estimate and check their reviews. You can always get a free second inspection from a local office before you sign anything.
A limb hit my roof in Wexford, but I don't see a hole. Should I worry?
Get it checked. On wooded lots in Wexford, Franklin Park and Bradford Woods, limbs often crack decking or a rafter while the shingles above stay in place. You might not see a problem until the next heavy rain, or until snow load sits on the weakened spot. An inspection from the roof and the attic tells you for sure.
How do I know if I have hail damage?
From the ground, you usually don't. Look for dents in gutters, downspouts and metal vents, and granules piling up at downspout outlets. On the roof, hail leaves dark bruises where granules were knocked off and soft spots in the shingle. We photograph what we find and tell you honestly whether it rises to real damage.
Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?
Many homeowners call a roofer first, for a free inspection, so they know whether there's real storm damage before opening a claim. If we find damage, we photo-document it and help you file. We also meet your adjuster on the roof. Your insurer makes the coverage decision, and you stay in charge of the claim.
Does your workmanship guarantee cover the next storm?
No, and we'd rather say so now. Our 2-year workmanship guarantee covers how we installed the roof: improper installation and leaks caused by our work. Hail, wind and lightning damage is excluded, because that's what homeowner's insurance is for. The materials carry their own lifetime product warranty from the manufacturer.
How soon should storm damage be repaired?
As soon as it's practical. A creased shingle or loose flashing in July often turns into a stained ceiling by the first freeze-thaw stretch of winter. If the roof is open, we tarp it right away. Many insurance policies also set time limits on reporting damage, so check yours.
